When is the right time to consider hospice?
Many people wait too long to consider hospice, thinking it is only for the last few days of life. In reality, hospice can provide months of improved quality of life, better symptom control, and enhanced support for both patients and families.
Consider hospice when you notice frequent hospitalizations, declining functional ability, increasing symptoms despite treatment, or when curative treatments are no longer effective or desired. A general guideline is a prognosis of six months or less, though many patients live longer and continue to receive care.
