Can hospice help patients with Alzheimer's or dementia?
Hospice care is an excellent fit for patients with advanced Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia. When dementia has progressed to the point where a patient can no longer walk, speak more than a few words, or eat and drink adequately, hospice becomes eligible and highly beneficial.
Our team is trained in the unique challenges of dementia care, including managing pain in patients who cannot verbalize discomfort, addressing agitation and behavioral changes, and communicating effectively with patients who have limited verbal ability. We use gentle techniques and a calm, consistent approach to minimize anxiety and distress.
Family caregivers of dementia patients often carry an especially heavy burden. Our social workers and chaplains provide dedicated support for families navigating anticipatory grief, caregiver exhaustion, and the emotional complexity of watching a loved one decline over years. Hospice brings additional hands and hearts into the home so no family faces this journey alone.
We serve families throughout the San Fernando Valley with specialized dementia hospice, including memory care hospice in Tarzana.
